Why Bing Still Matters (More Than You Might Think)

Most small business owners focus on Google - and rightly so. But here’s something a lot of people miss:

Bing powers the search results for ChatGPT, Microsoft Edge, Copilot, and even Alexa.

So while Bing may have a smaller share of traditional searches, it’s quietly fuelling some of the most powerful AI tools in use today.

If your business isn’t listed there, you could be missing out - especially as more people start relying on tools like ChatGPT to find services near them.

The Good News: It’s Free and Takes 10 Minutes

Bing has its own business listing platform called Bing Places - similar to Google Business Profile.

Once listed, your business can show up in:

  • Bing search results

  • Bing Maps

  • Microsoft services like Copilot

  • AI search integrations (like those inside ChatGPT and Edge)

Step-by-Step: How to List Your Business on Bing

Click “Get Started” and sign in with a Microsoft account. (If you don’t have one, you’ll be prompted to create one.)

2. Search for Your Business

Use your business name and postcode to check if you're already listed.

  • If found, you can claim it.

  • If not, click “Create New Business”.

3. Fill in Your Details

You’ll be asked for:

  • Business name

  • Address

  • Phone number

  • Website

  • Opening hours

  • Business category

Tip: Make sure these details match what’s on your Google listing and website.

4. Add Photos

Upload your logo and a few images - van signage, work in progress, shopfront, or anything that helps potential customers recognise your business.

5. Choose Your Service Area

If you're a mobile business (like a plumber or electrician), you can list the areas you serve instead of showing a physical address.

6. Verify Your Listing

Verification is usually by post, phone, or email. Just follow the on-screen instructions.

Bonus Tip: Import from Google to Save Time

If you’ve already set up your Google Business Profile, Bing lets you import the details directly. It takes less than a minute.

Why This Is Worth Doing

By listing your business on Bing, you’re improving your chances of being found:

  • In Microsoft-powered searches (Edge, Windows, Bing Maps)

  • In AI tools like ChatGPT that pull results from Bing

  • In voice searches via Alexa and other smart devices

Even if you never search on Bing yourself, your potential customers might — or their devices might.

In Summary

Local visibility isn’t just about Google anymore. With Bing powering some of the biggest names in tech, spending 10 minutes setting up a listing could quietly win you new customers - now and in the future.
